This is a reminder that Friday, May 17, is the deadline to submit player and manager names for 2013 NBLL All-Star consideration!

ALL-STAR PLAYER CANDIDATES:
Before you consider All-stars, please review the entire All-Star document under the All-Stars tab on the NBLL.com website. This document explains the All-Star program, including selection criteria and process.  In particular, please review the area regarding the required time commitments.  It's very important that anyone selected to an All-Star team be present for the entire All-Star period, which includes the district and state tournaments for 9/10 and 10/11 All-Stars, and may include the regional tournament and beyond for 11/12 (Majors) and Juniors All-Stars.

  • 9/10-  and 10/11-year old All-Star teams:  June 15 - July 30 (district, state)
  • 11/12 (Majors) All-Star teams:  June 15 - Aug 8 (district, state, regional)
  • Juniors All-Stars:  June 15 - Aug 6 (district, state, regional)

The effort that goes into All-Stars is great and we ask for a full commitment from players, coaches, parents, and board members!  Players who have planned extended absences during that time for vacation or other events are encouraged to register for the Summer League.  Summer League registration will open in the next few days.

The deadline for players to submit their name as an All-star candidate is May 17th.  Please send an email to the player agent (playeragent@nbll.com) and president (president@nbll.com) by the end of the day on Friday, May 17, and include the following information in your email:

  • Player Name
  • Current NBLL Team and Jersey Number
  • League Age (age on April 30, 2013)
Note:  Per Little League International guidelines, players who are 10 on April 30, 2013, may be considered for either the 9/10 team or the 10/11 team.  Similarly, players who are 11 years old on April 30, 2013, may be considered for either the 10/11 team or the 11/12 team.  Players will try out by age group and if the selection committee feels that your 10- or 11-year old should be considered for selection to the older team, we will initiate a conversation with your family at that time.

NBLL will field the following All-Star Teams in 2013:
  • 1 Juniors All-Star team, if enough player and coach interest/availability
  • 1 Majors (age 11/12) All-Star Team
  • at least 1 All-Star Team of 10/11-year olds*
  • at least 1 All-Star Team of 9/10-year old*
* The number of teams at the 9/10- and 10/11- year old age groups will be determined based on the number of qualified candidates at each level.

ALL-STAR TRYOUTS:
Tryouts for 9, 10, and 11-year old players will be held on Saturday, June 15th, in the morning (times TBD based on final number of candidates).  This is the earliest possible date for tryouts, per Little League rules.  Teams will be named by the following day.

Important Safety News
posted 5/16/2013 by NBLL
Dear NBLL Community,

Please take the time to read and understand a few current safety concerns that directly affect players, children and adults at all four field locations.

Swinging Bat Hazard

1. During Games, Practices, Pre-game Warm ups: Children are NOT
ALLOWED to handle or swing baseball bats without Coach/Adult supervision.

2. Take EXTRA Caution when swinging bats outside your a field area. NO swinging bats in areas where people are walking by.

3. Siblings/Non-playing children-NO swinging bats unless in an area away from traffic and under strict supervision.

Permanent brain injury, blindness and other critical injuries could result from carelessness.

Equipment Box Hazard

The design and hinge system of the equipment boxes is damaged. We are working on fixing this problem. In the interim please note:
The lids on all equipment boxes can easily topple down and could cause serious harm if body parts are in, or around, the slammed lid.
This is EXTREMELY dangerous and could lead to injuries, such as severed digits.
Make sure ALL children are away from the equipment boxes at ALL times.
Two children could lift a lid and slam it down,or you may think it is held upright BUT it only takes a gust of wind, or a tap, to be knocked down.
HOLD lid up at all times.

Lightning Hazard

Be observant at all times.
Monitors are located at all field location inside the equipment boxes.
Please do not stay on the field if it is threatened, you are setting a bad example for the children in your care if you stand out in the open; and risking your life.
If monitor light is fixed on 3-8 clear immediately. Clear to grounded location NOT dugout(Cars are Safe)Specific instructions are with each monitor.

Please take a moment to read the 2013 Safety Plan.

Campaign Grand Slam Needs You to Help Raise $25,000!
posted 12/4/2012 by NBLL
Please contribute to Campaign Grand Slam!

NBLL needs to raise at least $25,000 to fund much-needed improvements to our aging and heavily used fields and facilities.  Click here to contribute!

Player registration fees cover a portion of NBLL’s operating costs.  Financial support from businesses and individuals covers some of the remaining expenditures, while ensuring that participation is open to all children, regardless of a ability to pay.  However, at the end of the season, we are often left with little monies to fund the more costly but necessary projects.

Since safety for players and spectators is our highest priority, we direct a significant portion of our annual budget toward maintaining aging facilities and replacing worn-out or unsafe equipment. For example, in 2012, a few of the safety-related projects we completed include:
  • Replaced unsafe/exposed fencing sections at Iris Fields
  • Replaced worn-out or unsafe player equipment, including batting helmets and catcher’s gear
  • Brought electrical wiring in equipment storage areas up to code
  • Secured two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), to be installed in 2013 at game sites.
In addition to normal operating costs incurred by a league of our size, we need your help to continue funding safer, more enjoyable facilities in 2013. To this end, some projects we are planning include:
  • Replacement of additional unstable or exposed fencing sections
  • Repair/replacement of structural dugout damage at various sites
  • Replenish/improvement of infield dirt and drainage at several fields
  • Completion of batting cage upgrades at Iris and Centennial
  • Wiring/electrical upgrades at Snack Shack

NBLL volunteers are hard at work raising money for next season and beyond.  We are recruiting team and league sponsors, seeking in-kind and monetary donations, and pursuing grants from outside sources.

This is where Campaign Grand Slam comes in.  Many of you have expressed the desire to keep fundraising efforts as efficient and painless as possible – we know how busy everyone is!  Therefore, to participate in Campaign Grand Slam, we are asking families to make a one-time charitable donation to NBLL, the proceeds of which will be invested right back into our league.

To reach our goal of raising $25,000, we are suggesting an average donation of $50 per family.  We know that some can contribute less and others may be able to donate more.  We are striving for 100% participation, so any contribution helps us reach our goal and we welcome donations of any amount!

Your one-time contribution to Campaign Grand Slam beginning now in December 2012 directly benefits NBLL players in 2013!

You can contribute to Campaign Grand Slam in 2 ways:
1.  Click here to make a secure online donation via Credit Card.
2.  Mail your contribution to:  NBLL Grand Slam, P.O. Box 1827, Boulder, CO, 80306

NBLL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity, and your donation may be tax deductible.  Many employers offer matching funds, so please inquire about ways to leverage your contribution for even greater impact.

By participating in Campaign Grand Slam, you directly help the kids by supporting NBLL’s mission to provide the “best game in town” for our young ballplayers!

Thank you for your support.

Concussions & Youth Sports in Colorado: New Law & New Training
posted 1/18/2012 by NBLL
In March, 2011, Governor John Hickenlooper signed into state law the "Jake Snakenberg Youth Sports Concussion Act".  This law, considered one of the most sweeping laws in the nation, is designed to help protect youth athletes from head injuries by requiring concussion awareness training for public and private school coaches, as well as volunteer coaches and manages in organizations like Little League.

The bill was named after Jake Snakenberg, a high school football player who died in 2004 after sustaining a hit during a game closely following an undiagnosed concussion from a hit in a previous game.

The bill requires that coaches receive education about concussions, that a student athlete is removed from the field of play if a concussion is suspected, and that the student be signed off by a healthcare professional before returning to play. The Act is effective as of January 1, 2012.

For information on Concussion in Youth Sports please visit http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/pdf/parents_Eng.pdf

All NBLL Managers and Coaches will be required by law to take the online concussion training course, found here.   http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/headsup/online_training.html

We hope that all parents and other league volunteers will also take the time to complete this training.
